Side-Tracked: Recent Haul of KOs (195) - KO Robot Masters Optimus Prime

Wanted to get a good Optimus Prime to go with the KBB Walthertron in my office, and then realize that maybe Robot Master series figures may be of a suitable size... and it seem so... So bought this KO Robot Masters Optimus Prime from Taobao.com, and it turn out to be quite a good figure!! ... Cost approximately SGD 8.25 ...

The plastic used does not feel like fragile type, and overall weight is quite hefty for a KO... However, the head is simplified to non-rotating, and hence face is clearly visible in truck mode... Cannot tolerate this... Also, the smokestacks (white plastic) and front-light sections (blue plastic) are also missing paint application, making the truck looks a bit ugly...

... And truck mode after adding paint... Should I paint the wheel hubs??? Hmmm...

... Oh, also restored the head to be able to rotate 360 degree...

... robot mode, as out of the packaging... Joints are generally tight, except for 1 leg's hip-joint which can be repaired tightened using 2 drops of super-glue... The side-abs are missing the spring effect, but not an issue as they can be manually swung down when transforming it...

Added some yellow to the arms, and also over the crotch piece and hips too... Also restored the silver side-abs... Looks good!!! The white plastic rifle is also coated with black paint from a black paint pen with some silver detail...

This is still 1 of the better representation of the G1 (cartoon) Optimus Prime in my personal opinion, though the (leg) articulation is less than satisfactory....

  1. Was the KO DOTM Schockwave ffrom way back good quality? I'm looking into buying one and want to know if it's solid like the real one.

    1. No idea too, as I did not buy the KO one... but somehow I don't like the design after some time and had sold my authentic one away in a flea market a few years ago...

    2. Ok thanks, on eBay the ones coming from china look like the real one (packaging and all) but I don't think they are. Can't find any info on a KO so maybe it is real. No idea.

    3. I remember at that time there were batches of bootleg movie TFs even with official looking packaging boxes (my DOTM Fireburst Optimus seem likely to be a bootleg version with relatively loose hip joints), so it is not surprise to get a bootleg...
